’twas the night before Christmas

Cristmas tree

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house

New technology was waiting, no need for a mouse;

Shiny tablets were hung by the chimney with care,

To be loaded with apps and personal information to share.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds;

While visions of Xbox danced in their heads.

Dreaming of age inappropriate games;

Online forums included for the calling of names.

Interactive toys that will listen, learn and say;

storing your data online in an insecure way.

A smart phone with messaging and camera too;

For risky behaviour and sexting to do.

To bring them to life wireless broadband was waiting,

With parental controls in need of activating.

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and pa in his cap,

Abdicate responsibility in the parenting trap.

But help is at hand, if they just think to ask

Talk to family, schools or go online for the task.

For teachers and leaders ’tis the time to be bold,

With guidance and safeguarding messages told;

At the end of the term before presents are given

And again in the New Year so behaviours are driven.

If you still find this daunting and it all gives you pause,

We are here to support and to champion the cause.

These risks can be managed with a little forsight

Giving “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
